Uniform Information

At Wiveliscombe Primary School, we expect all children to wear our school uniform. We believe that wearing a uniform helps children to feel part of our school community, promotes a sense of belonging and ensures that children are dressed appropriately for the school day.

We ask that children come to school dressed appropriately for the season and weather. Please clearly name all clothing and belongings and check labels regularly, as names can fade over time.

Standard School Uniform

Our school uniform consists of:

  • School sweatshirt or cardigan with school logo
  • Plain white shirt, blouse or polo shirt
  • Grey or black tailored skirt or trousers
  • Dark school shoes – trainers should not be worn as school shoes
  • White, grey or black socks or tights
  • A suitable coat and weather-appropriate clothing

Summer Term Uniform:

During warmer weather, children may also wear:

  • Green and white summer dress
  • Grey or black tailored shorts
  • Summer sandals with secure backs

Leggings and cycling shorts are not part of our school uniform. Crocs and high-heeled shoes should not be worn to school.

Children should come prepared for the weather, including suitable sun protection during hot and sunny weather.

Hair

Hair should be neat, practical and appropriate for the school environment. Hair that is shoulder-length or longer should be tied back, and all children's hair should be kept out of their eyes. Where a fringe or shorter falls forward into the eyes, children should use a hairband or other suitable means to keep their hair clear of their face.

Patterns, designs or unnatural colours applied to the hair are not appropriate for school.

Jewellery

For safety reasons, jewellery should be kept to a minimum in school. Children with pierced ears may wear one pair of small, plain stud earrings. Bracelets, anklets and necklaces are not permitted.

For PE and sport, all earrings must be removed. Earrings cannot be covered with tape, and children will not be able to take part in full PE lessons while wearing them.

Children should be able to remove their own earrings independently. If a child is unable to remove their earrings themselves, parents or carers must remove them before the child comes to school on days when they have PE. Information regarding your child's weekly timetable is available in parent curriculum letters, which can be found in the curriculum section of the website or are available via the school office.

At Wiveliscombe Primary School, we apply the same safety expectations to Forest School, and earrings must be removed before children take part.

We therefore recommend that, when children have their ears pierced, it is done at a time that allows them to heal sufficiently for earrings to be removed safely for PE and Forest School.

PE and Sport

It is important that children have the appropriate clothing and footwear for PE and sport. Children should have their complete, clearly named PE kit in school every day, as there may be occasions when PE or sporting activities take place outside their usual timetabled sessions.

Children must have a separate pair of trainers or plimsolls for PE; footwear worn as part of the school uniform should not be used for PE.

Our PE kit consists of:

  • A t-shirt in the child's house colour:
    • Buzzards: red
    • Herons: blue
    • Magpies: green
    • Skylarks: yellow
  • Dark shorts
  • A separate pair of plimsolls or trainers for PE
  • A plain long-sleeved sweatshirt and dark tracksuit trousers for outdoor PE in colder weather

Forest School

Children take part in Forest School sessions weekly and need suitable clothing and footwear to keep them safe, comfortable and ready to enjoy outdoor learning.

For Forest School, children need:

  • Long trousers and a long-sleeved top all year round, to help protect against ticks, scratches and insect bites.
  • Wellies or sturdy outdoor boots
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather, such as a waterproof coat and trousers in wet weather, and appropriate protection in warmer weather, such as a sunhat.
  • Clothes that children and families do not mind getting muddy!

All Forest School clothing, footwear and bags should be clearly named.

Depending on their class timetable, children may come to school wearing their Forest School clothes and bring their uniform to change into, or come to school in uniform and bring their Forest School clothes to change into. In either case, clothing should be brought in a clearly named bag, with all individual items named.

Please refer to your child's class curriculum information (in the curriculum section of the website) for details of their Forest School day and whether they should come to school wearing their Forest School clothing.

Earrings must be removed for Forest School, in line with safety expectations outlined above.

Swimming

For swimming, children will need:

  • A one-piece swimming costume; or
  • Swimming shorts
