At Wiveliscombe Primary School, we aim to inspire children's curiosity about the world around them and develop their knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas and processes. Alongside building their scientific knowledge, children develop their skills in working scientifically through five types of scientific enquiry: observing over time; pattern seeking; identifying, classifying and grouping; comparative and fair testing; and researching using secondary sources. Through practical investigations, exploration and discussion, children learn to ask questions, make observations, gather and interpret evidence and draw conclusions. As they progress through school, children build on their prior learning and become increasingly confident and independent scientists.
