We are proud to hold an Eco-Schools' Status here at Wiveliscombe Primary School. Each year, our pupils have the opportunity to campaign for and subsequently elect two members of their class to form our eco-committee.
Our eco-committee this year are:
Year 6: Emilia and Ronnie
Year 5: Izzy and Oakley
Year 4: Arthur and Lily D
Year 3: Archie and Kaya
Year 2: Sophia and Reggie
Year 1: Etta and Bertie
Reception: Layla and Joss
Last year, we achieved our Green Flag by completing our action plan which was to:
Improve our school grounds and increase the biodiversity - we did this by planting new trees, creating new habitats such as wildlife piles, spreading wildflower seeds.
Decrease the amount of litter in the school grounds and local area - we did this by encouraging litter picking at playtimes, completing litter picks at forest school and year 4 did a litter pick at the rec.
To improve snacks and lunchboxes - letter to parents about healthy choices/single use plastics/assembly and lunchbox/snack surveys
This year, our action plan is:
Transport: To encourage fewer children to travel to school by car. We will have an active travel week after Easter to encourage different ways to travel to school.
Water: To reduce our water use by installing a water butt We have invited Wessex Water to come in and talk about water efficiency.
Marine: To increase awareness of single use plastics and aim to reduce the use of them across school. We have purchased new litter pickers so every KS2 class has a litter picker.
