PTFA

We are fortunate to have a school parent, teacher and friend’s association (PTFA) and everyone in the Wiveliscombe Primary School community plays a part.

The PTFA is run by a committee of parents, teachers and community members. The key members change regularly at the annual general meeting (AGM) in the Autumn term although everyone is still welcome to become involved at any point during the school year.

Raising funds to enhance the school

The primary aim of the PTFA is to raise funds to enhance the children’s school experience. At the start of the of every school year the PTFA part an amount per child for the teachers to use at their discretion. It has previous been used to help pay towards children attending trips or for particular services to come into school and work with the children.

Some of the other things that PTFA have provided are:

  • New books for the library
  • A whole class set of Chromebooks.
  • Online maths resources
  • PSHCE resources
  • Every child having weekly swimming lessons at Wiveliscombe outdoor heated pool.

Activities run by the PTFA

Activities that the committee run vary from year to year. The Summer Fair is by far the most popular with activities for everyone including the waterslide, assault course, many stalls including the raffle and performances from local groups.

The Christmas Fair has stalls and crafts for the whole family to enjoy and also a special visit with Father Christmas.

The children also enjoy termly discos, film nights and non-uniform days. There are also ice cream and cake sales. But don’t worry parents – we have been known to do Bingo, Jumble sales and quiz nights for you to enjoy.

As a PTFA, we also use the easy fundraiser app which allows us to receive donations every time you shop through them. You can also select us as your charity on Amazon Smile.

We love the idea of recycling. We have a clothes bin located at the side of the main building where you can recycle your unwanted materials. Additionally, we also recycle crisp packs, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes. This all helps towards raising funds for our school. Not all of our events are about raising money, but they are about having fun and socialising with friends old and new.

How to get involved with the PTFA

The PTFA is always looking for new members, new ideas and activities for all to enjoy and ultimately raise money for the children to enhance their learning experiences. If you are new to the school or would like more information about how to get involved, you can speak to a current member of the PTFA committee, speak to Mrs Crowe or Mrs Kerr (who are PTFA links) or Mrs Thompson in the office. We have our own noticeboard, which is located on the PTFA shed next to the bike shed, where we advertise all of the events we hold.

We are delighted that Paddocks Nursery School is a part of Wiveliscombe Primary School
